The Truth about Pet Breeds

Pet breed information, best dog breeds for pets, dog breeds information

You are probably heading to the animal shelters soon to take possession of your lovely pet. It could be a dog, a cat or any other choice. Choices and varieties will be varied and may be a little confusing. Do you, for example, get a pure breed or mixed breed? Do you settle for a kitten, puppy or an older pet? Where do you start? How do you navigate through the exercise? A few quick tips will help you make an informed decision and make your exercise exciting and memorable.

First, do realize that the younger the pet, the more care you will need to give. Weigh your lifestyle and see if you can afford the extra effort required to bring up a kitten or puppy. If your daily schedule is tight, you may realistically rule out younger pets.

A pure breed is one whose ancestry is defined and hasn’t changed ever, whereas a mixed breed, as the word suggests, is a product of two different breeds. As a rule of thumb, pure breeds have certain predictable behaviors and patterns. You will for example know the life expectancy, reproductive cycle, common diseases and weight at each age. Contrary to the belief of many, a pure breed is not necessarily more resistant to diseases than a mixed breed.

If you need to train your pet, you can easily predict the skills capability of a pure breed. Check if the breed you are about to get will be compatible with the one already at home. As for a mixed breed, you have traits of two different animals put together. You may not like the behaviors of one breed. A mixture of them will give you the closest desired traits.

How each breed adjusts will greatly depend on the training you will provide. If you take your time and attention, you can suppress certain behaviors in most animals and bring out the desired ones. Animal care attendants should be able to guide you on all the kind of breeds available in the shelters. The pros and cons of each and how you can quickly transition can take place while at home.

Involve your family members, they may know something you don’t know and could provide timely and relevant advice.
